During 1978/1979 Rotary District 321 covered Sri Lanka and parts of
Tamil Nadu and Kerala in South India . The District had 64 Clubs of
which only 16 were in Sri Lanka Tamil Nadu had about 50% of the
clubs. Sri Lanka & Kerala had opportunity of electing a District
Governor every secound year due to the larger number of clubs .
District 321 was turly an International District and there was a lat
of camarerie with Indian Rotarians. District Conferences were held
in Sri Lanka , Tamil Nadu and Kerala depending on the convenience of
the incumbent District Governor .
In 1979 Sri Lanka celebrated fifty years of the founding of Rotary.
Rotary International President Clam Renouf of Australia was
personally present ar the District Conferance which was held at
BMICH and Holiday Inn Hotel .A large number of Rotarians from Tamil
Nadu and Kerala and other parts of india attended this District
Conferance .The theme of Rotary International President Clem Renouf
was " Reach Out " .
President Clem Renouf was taken by helicopter to Kandy where an
Orchid was named after him. Rotarian Raja Saboo of India who
subsequently became RI President and Rotarians Panduranga Setty and
Sudarshan Agarwal both of whom subsequently becameDirectors of
Rotary International among several other Rotary Dignitaries from
India etc .were also present at the District Conferance .
